Under 5’s Group

We provide a meeting place at the Becket for parents and carers with babies and small children to relax and chat together over a cup of tea or coffee, while children play. Opportunities for friendship, fun and learning what is available in the area i.e. other groups and places to take children to learn such as Tumble Tots, Messy Play, swimming classes etc. The group helps children to learn to socialise and play with other children, which is a very important start for their school days.

We open our group to local people who wish to sell items to our parents and carers, for which we receive commission or an item for our Christmas raffle. Money raised helps to renew broken toys and fund events throughout the year.

We organise at Easter, hot cross buns for parents and carers, and an Easter egg for each child. In the summer we hold a Fun Day where we have an assortment of bouncy castles for the day. Parents and carers come along for the day and bring a picnic, which we have in the Rose Garden at the back of the car park. We collect donations on the day and this is given to the Church for their chosen charity. At Christmas we arrange a party with an entertainer and Father Christmas, and every child goes home with a present. We have a buffet lunch for the children supplied by the parents and carers, and the group supplies a ploughman’s lunch for the parents and carers.

We also arrange for a photographic session in the Autumn.

We ask each parent and carer to fill in a registration form on starting with the group and in return we give them an introductory letter explaining how the group is run, and certain rules that have to be followed e.g. car parking and the disposal of nappies.

We are a voluntary run group and all our helpers give their time and expertise freely.

Helena Wong - Secretary
Nina Sweeney - Treasurer
Sheila Browne - Group’s Leader and Tuesday Group Organiser
Rachel Woolf - Wednesday Group Organiser
Nada Suleman - Refreshments

Cost: £1 per session per family group
9.30am – 11am each day

We are affiliated with the Pre-School Learning Alliance who we have our insurance cover with. They also monitor the running of the group and regularly send a member to check out the groups. They also arrange to come into the group to enhance our play, by bringing a parachute to play with or maybe some Playdoh for the children to enjoy. They inform us of events that are taking place in Redbridge, e.g. the Teddy Bears’ Picnic, and when and where the toy library will be. This is for the use of the group, or its parents and carers.
